A few things to keep in mind.
These are planning estimates based on your measurements. Check the cutting plan and your quilter's requirements before buying or cutting.
How backing is calculated
We add your overhang to every side, then find the number of full-width panels needed. Each join removes two seam allowances from the sewn width. Both orientations are compared when allowed. Fabric is rounded up to the next ⅛ yard or 0.1 metre.
The plan uses equal-length full-width panels. It does not optimize scraps or diagonal piecing, and does not add shrinkage, print-repeat matching or squaring-up allowances.
How binding and blocks are calculated
Binding starts with the quilt perimeter plus your finishing allowance. Strip count includes the length lost at diagonal joins. Fabric quantity is strip count × cut strip width, rounded up for purchase. Backing and binding quantities are separate even when they use the same fabric.
The block layout uses finished block size × rows or columns, plus a border on each side. Unfinished block size adds two piecing seam allowances. It does not calculate the fabric for internal patchwork or borders.
